Get on Board with MVRRA!
The Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority (MVRRA) consisting of Carver, Sibley, Renville, Redwood and Yellow Medicine Counties, owns a 94.7 miles railroad track from Norwood Young America to Hanley Falls, MN. Our line is operated by the Minnesota Prairie Line Inc. (MPLI). The MPLI connects with the Twin Cities & Western Railroad (TC&W) at Norwood Young America providing the MPLI with access to ALL major Class I Railroads operating through the Twin Cities.
Our 2022 Rail Improvement project from Gibbon to Fairfax was completed with rail relay in mid-November. There is still additional work to be completed which will happen starting in the spring of 2023 - fall of 2023! Beautiful smooth new rail has been installed replacing 85# rail from 1912 with new 115# continuous welded rail. We have completed 55 miles and have 44 miles yet to complete with CWR to Hanley Falls.
In August and September we completely replaced the wood trestle bridge over Crow Creek between Redwood Falls and Morton, with a new steel & concrete bridge. There is an amazing difference between these two structures, and this will serve us well into our future. Funding for these two projects was made possible with $10M from the 2020 State of Minnesota Special Session approved in October of 2021.
